EMG LAWS FOR NEVADA

EMG LAWS FOR NEVADA

The Physical Therapy Practice Act of the State of Nevada defines Physical Therapy as

NRS 640.024 “Practice of physical therapy” defined. “Practice of physical therapy”:

1. Includes:

(a) The performing and interpreting of tests and measurements as an aid to evaluation or treatment;

(b) The planning of initial and subsequent programs of treatment on the basis of the results of tests; and

(c) The administering of treatment through the use of therapeutic exercise and massage, the mobilization of joints by the use of therapeutic exercise without chiropractic adjustment, mechanical devices, and therapeutic agents which employ the properties of air, water, electricity, sound and radiant energy.

EMG/NCS Testing uses electricity and Musculoskeletal Ultrasound uses sound waves for the evaluation (testing and measurement) of the neuro-musculoskeletal system.

APTA fully supports PTs practicing EMG/NCS Testing as it is within the scope of Physical Therapy Practice. The Orthopedic Section of the APTA in a white paper not only advocates the use of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Imaging within the scope of practice for Physical Therapy but also endorses its application both for diagnostic as well as procedural purposes to aid neuromuscular re-education, dry needling and electroneuromyography.
